Recorded January 13, 2007 (at least mostly; Brian laid down vocals later that week as I recall), in Terry’s friend Chandler’s living room. Vocals aside, these are live takes with me on keyboard, Terry on drums, Nate on bass and Brian on guitar.
We spent the day recording, though the first half was mostly transporting gear and setting everything up. You can look at a photoset of the whole process, if you want to see a bleary rock band in action.
Insofar as a lot of the work we did as quartet developing material in The Man So Cool has gone on to influence Brian’s approach to his later songwriting and production, this recording makes an interesting sort of prequel to Brian’s EP Lean. No songs appear on both (though Potassium in particular was a close call), but many of the sonic ideas and certainly much of my keyboard sensibility on the later recording has roots in what we were doing here two years earlier.
